'Connecting with the Diaspora: Building bridges through music'
The Association of Jamaican Nationals in association with Birmingham City Council is proud to present The University of the West Indies (UWI) Singers as they get ready to embark on their second UK tour. Similar to university choirs in the UK, the UWI Singers have established themselves as one of the leading choral group groups in the Caribbean. However, these highly talented singers bring a new slant to the traditional ideas of university choirs.
They are noted for their musical versatility, with their usual numbers crossing a wide variety of genres. An evening with the University Singers will be filled with classical, gospel, jazz, and even local and international pop music. As ambassadors for the University of the West Indies and Caribbean music itself, they also include original numbers from Caribbean composers.
