Step inside the huge front doors and you step back in time to Victorian Splendour. You will discover a magnificent room dominated by an imposing glass domed ceiling underneath which is an island bar. The Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre Venue is located in the heart of Birmingham's city centre amongst the banks and international commerce offices and directly opposite St Philip's Cathedral.
Built in 1864, this grade two, listed building was designed by Julius Alfred Chatwin and started life as Birmingham Library until it became the Birmingham Joint Stock Bank and eventually Lloyds bank in 1889; the very same year that Birmingham received city status.
At the Old Joint Stock we have a selection of well-equipped function and meeting rooms as well as a custom designed theatre available for your events. Whether you are organising a conference, meeting, training day, product launch, fashion show, wedding reception or any important occasion we will have a room or area to suit your needs. Accessibility is excellent, with a ramp lift available at the rear of the building and a passenger lift inside to access both the first & second floors.
Our Kitchen team can produce a selection of buffets designed to your specifications or we have a pick and mix buffet menu for you to choose from. We are also able to offer full meals either from our Ale & Pie Menu with fantastic home baked pies and a selection of classic meals or again by designing a menu to suit your requirements.
Our bar is stocked with a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks including the excellent range of cask ales from Fullers London Griffin brewery.
The Old Joint Stock Theatre is an extremely versatile space and is available for hire to amateur and professional companies, groups and individuals. The area can also be used for fashion shows, conferences or parties - the options are endless. Maximum seating capacity is 80.
The wonderful atmosphere of the theatre has made a success of many productions and events; our Theatre Manager, Theatre Technician and floor staff are available to ensure that full support is available. The Old Joint Stock Theatre has had a wide range of productions including Patrick & Bernadine written by Dan Hagley, Mouse written by David Cooksey, Mask of the Red Death and The Tales of Terror produced by The Happiness Patrol. There has also been some side splitting comedy from the likes of Stewart Lee, Jim Jeffries and Reginald D Hunter on stage.
Situated in the Theatre on the second floor and accessible by stairs and passenger lift, the Crush Bar is ideal for smaller parties and meetings, it is also used as an Art Gallery with local and national exhibitions taking place. Perfect for small drinks receptions with canapés or even as a dining room for a meal, we can set up a mini bar or offer waiter service for all your needs. The room is ideal for confidential meetings, one to ones, interviews or auditions. It can be set up as boardroom, interview table or casual tables.
The foyer and theatre box office is a great working space which can also be used as a waiting area for the crush bar and is an extension for the gallery with a large wall area on the approach to the theatre auditorium.
